EVENT DESCRIPTION
This is a benefit concert to raise support for the hungry and needy children of North Korea by various Juilliard musicians through NY KCCC’s connection to Yanbian University of Science and Technology (YUST). This event is meant to raise awareness, raise funds, and raise partnerships for freedom and truth to come to North Korea.
The program includes:
- A public instrumental performance by Juilliard musicians; some pieces composed specifically for this event by Juilliard composers.
- An introduction to North Korea and the beginning of NKCF through NY KCCC and YUST and a presentation on current realities and opportunities in North Korea through NY KCCC and YUST.
- An opportunity to donate during the event.
- A North Korea specific photography gallery of 16 photos by Nicole Kim (Masters in Photography, SVA)
- Informational Booths about NKCF, Juilliard, and NY KCCC.
THE BENEFITING CAUSE
North Korea Children’s Fund (NKCF):
NKCF started as a response by NY KCCC students after participating in NY KCCC’s Summer Missions through what they saw and heard when they went to the borders of North Korea. They had opportunities to meet with many people who worked both in and around North Korea to bring God's love to North Korea through different vehicles such as humanitarian aids, business, agricultural development, refugee work and even underground efforts.
Among many of these works and needs, they were moved by the needs of the children who are growing up malnourished and developing stunted growth. They were challenged by the realization that they could do something to bring immediate help to these children. Simply $10 a month could provide sufficient food to help a child in North Korea grow healthy.
As they visited the campus of Yanbian University of Science and Technology (YUST), a long-standing and trustworthy institution had a project to feed North Korean children. To ensure that the food goes to the children that it is intended for, the YUST staff after purchasing the grains from donations accompanies the delivery to each site every month. The YUST staff personally supervises the distribution of the food and does this on a monthly basis to safeguard against the reallocation of the food supplies. NY KCCC students participating in NY KCCC Summer Missions met with the staff personally and received reports first hand.
Last year, they took up a small offering among the mission team and alumni, and with the help of Juilliard KCCC’s benefit concert last year, raised a total of $2000. When they came back to New York, they felt they could do more and needed to do more to help feed the children in North Korea and began NKCF. NKCF is under the umbrella of KCCC for both accountability and tax purposes for donors.
